The Pelican Award is presented to a graduate of the University who has contributed significantly to the development of the University or has made an outstanding contribution to Jamaica. This is the most prestigious award given by the UWI Alumni Association.

The first recipient of this honour was Professor Ken Magnus for his work in Chemistry in 1966. Since then, twenty-nine such awards have been presented to graduates in several fields.

In 1994 at the gathering of the graduates, six such awards were presented and for our fiftieth anniversary, five were presented.

The recipients included Derek Walcott, Dr. Barry Chevannes, Marjorie Whylie and our Vice Chancellor, Professor Rex Nettleford.

Nominations are open to the graduate community and should be submitted to the alumni office (876-927-2496). Please let us have your nominations.
