He is currently Professor of Urology at the University of
the West Indies and he pioneered kidney transplantation in
the Caribbean.
DURRANT, Ambassador Patricia - Assistant Secretary
General, United Nations. The first United Nations Ombudsman.
EDWARDS, Prof. Paul - A 1979 graduate of UWI's Faculty
of Medical Sciences is Chairman of the Dept. of Ophthalmology,
Eye Care Services at the Henry Ford Health System. Professor
Edwards is the first Caribbean national to hold such a post
in Ophthalmology in the USA.
EWEN, Dr. John A. - A 1972 UWI graduate has
been awarded the
United States of America's National Medal of Technology for
discoveries and inventions in the field of metallocene catalysis
which have revolutionised the production of polyethylene and
polypropylene plastics. He is President of Catalyst Research
Corporation in Houston, Texas.

Peter - Internationally recognized epidemiologist.
ROBINSON, H.E.
Patrick Lipton, CD - Has contributed significantly
to International Law. He is currently a Judge at the United
Nations International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia,
at the Hague, the Netherlands.
STANDARD, Sir Kenneth - Professor Emeritus
of Social and Preventative Medicine. Elected by the Pan American
Health Organization, in 2002, as one of Eleven Heroes of Public
Health in the Western Hemisphere during the 20th Century.
He was one of the now famous band of thirty-three which comprised
the first group of medical students to enter the medical faculty
at the University College in 1948, at Mona.

MILLS, Prof. Charles W -
Charles W. Mills is a former Jamaica (1968) and Commonwealth
Scholar
(1974) and is currently Professor of
Philosophy at the University of Illinois , Chicago. He graduated
from UWI in 1971 with an honours degree in Physics.
His first book, The Racial Contract, has had a tremendous impact.
It came out in September 1997 and was immediately a great success.
It has been adopted at more than a hundred campuses in the USA alone,
including many of the top institutions in the country. Moreover,
because of its accessibility, its course adoption has been at all
levels, from first-year introductory classes to graduate
seminars, and interdisciplinary: (just a few examples) it has been
used in Anthropology at Rice, in History at Arizona, in Political
Science at Princeton , in Race Relations at Chicago, in Sociology
at Harvard, in Philosophy in the USA). It has received the Gustavus
Myer Award for Outstanding Book on Human Rights in North America
and was submitted by Cornel University Press for the Pulitzer Prize.
The Caribbean Academic Journal, Small Axe, devoted an entire issue
to the book. Among his many acievements, Prof Mills has been a pst
