The Bridget Jones Memorial Fund
Dr. Bridget Jones, who taught at Mona from 1964 - 1982 and was one of the pioneers of the study of Caribbean literature in French, died on 4 April 2000. Generations of students were inspired by her teaching of French language and literature, and share warm memories of her involvement in extra-curricular activities.

The years she spent at UWI meant much to her, and her family and friends have decided to set up a fund in her memory, which will benefit students of French at the Mona campus. Awards will be made annually and may take the form of a contribution towards the cost of travel for study or research to one of the francophone areas of the Caribbean (including Guyana), a book grant, or funds to fill any other need deemed to be appropriate by the trustees of the fund. Bank accounts have been set up by the trustees both in Jamaica and in the UK.

The Bridget Jones Collection
It was Bridget Jones' desire to have her collection of French Caribbean Books and papers go to the Mona Library. Twenty-two boxes of material, including Bridget's publications, text by French Caribbean as well as African authors, reel to reel tapes, cassettes and videos on Caribbean and French Literature are thus housed at Mona's Main Library.

The relevance of the material to the research programmes at the University cannot be overstated and its value in strengthening the research potential of the Library's West Indies and Special Collections provides the Library with a significant competitive advantage.
